Life's a Beach

After a hearty breakfast of cereal bars and shoes, we made our way up to Provincetown.

On the way, we stopped in North Truro to visit the Highland Lighthouse - the very first lighthouse on the Cape which was commissioned by George Washington in 1797.

This was our first real glimpse at the ocean, and the lookout deck the lighthouse offered was gorgeous.

Then we headed back because daddy decided he could get a better view from the top.

Caitlin couldn't go up though - you have to be 48" tall. A little ways to go honey!

What a view :)

Then we went to a beach at the very tip of Cape Cod called Race Point Beach which is a part of the National Seashore.

She didn't quite know what to make of all the sand...

But quickly figured it out :)

However the ocean was just TOO much fun!

It was absolutely adorable to listen to her squeal when the water touched her ankles :)

This of course tuckered her right out, so we drove the sand dunes and admired the landscape.

We headed back to Brewster but stopped at the Hearth & Kettle restaurant for dinner on the way. I had baked crusted scrod, a New England favourite (it's actually a generic term for cod or haddock) and Mike had the seafood bake. Both delicious! Caitlin had meatball sliders which she liked too. Her appetite seems to be okay and she's feeling better, but we picked her up some more Pedialyte just to continue it.

Afterwards, we stopped for ice cream at a local shop and she chowed down on ours. She's developed quite the liking to ice cream!

We managed to eat quite early tonight, so we had time to spare before bedtime. We went to Crosby Landing Beach which is a part of the Brewster flats; the tide goes out so far that you can walk for miles. And we did!

She had a great time and didn't want to go when it was time to leave.

She even tried to run back once we reached the parking lot. Sorry sweetie :)

It really was the perfect day.
