Lots of Fishies

We spent the day down in Woods Hole today; it's the southern most point on Cape Cod and home to the Oceanographic Institute which is renowned for finding the Titanic. It's a real mix of shoppers and scientists which makes the town unique; we lucked out and got parking in town which was very limited.

We grabbed an iced coffee because it was stinking hot - Caitlin refused to keep her UV shade on. Our kid is so fair that she'll burn in a second, but it's a fight to keep it on her stroller... so we let her peek out to keep her happy although you can tell daddy's not thrilled!

Then we watched a boat pass under the drawbridge which connects Eel Pond to the harbour, and made our way across towards the Woods Hole Science Aquarium.

There used to be a neat coffee shop on the other side of the drawbridge called The Black Duck, but now it's a restaurant called Phusion. It's still has a neat patio that overlooks the water though.

When we arrived at the aquarium, there were trainers working with seals out front!

They had such neat looking fish there - Caitlin LOVED seeing them...

And they were interested in checking her out too!

So we checked out the rest of the aquarium...

And found the tank where you can touch some sea life!

She actually did get to touch the starfish, in fact when she got ahold of him, she squeezed the crap out of him and we had to check that he was still okay! We're still working on the word 'gentle'.

Afterwards, we walked across town to Oceanographic Institute to check out their mock-up of Alvin; the submersible that explored the Titanic. On the way we found a soapbox, perfect for Caitlin voice all her opinions :)

We also stopped for a lemonade because it was so damn humid.

We picked up some touristy Cape Cod sweatshirts, and headed towards Falmouth - Caitlin was starting to get antsy and could tell she was tired so we hoped she'd fall asleep while in the car.

On the way, we checked out the Nobska Lighthouse which looks onto Vineyard Sound; yet another picturesque location.

Mike and I have been going back and forth as to which island we want to visit - Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard; I think we're leaning towards Martha's Vineyard because the ferry over is only 45 minutes and significantly less expensive.

Caitlin didn't fall asleep before we arrived in Falmouth, so we couldn't stay too long. We walked the Farmer's Market and found a great painting of fishies by a local artist, so we picked it up for Caitlin's room as a reminder of all the fishies we saw on her first vacation.

We also bought some delicious treats from a shop on main street called CupCapes. (Sorry, no pictures... the cupcakes didn't last long!)

We left because it was nearing dinnertime (we've started eating really early in order to catch early bird specials... we feel like seniors showing up at restaurants at 4:30pm!).

Tonight was JT's, another seafood place right next door to our condo. I had blackened swordfish with mango chutney, and Mike had a lobster dinner again.

Lobster again??!

It's okay though, she's discovered these oyster crackers that all the restaurants give out. She gets really excited whenever she sees the package.
