Smiling Away

Mike has some vacation time that he has to take, so he's taken the first two weeks of October off. I'm so excited! We decided to spend the first week up at the cottage, and the second week puttering around at home… so we made the trek up on Thursday night.

It's been pretty cold, and other than making a quick trip into town to visit a heritage site yesterday, we've sought shelter inside. It was cold but clear today, so we drove up to Algonquin to see the beautiful colours. And they didn't disappoint; we went at the perfect time… they were at 90%!

Here is Caitlin goofing around in the backseat on the way up…

We went to the visitors centre to check out the neat dioramas of local wildlife. The moose were huge!

She couldn't figure out why the wolves weren't 'woofing' back at her…

So worth the trip:

Luckily grandpa was around to take a nice family shot of the three of us :)

We were sure to make a donation on the way out. Caitlin's a pro now at putting money into her piggy bank, so she gets super excited about dropping money into random bins as well…

Cry It Out Update: She is doing so much better. We're in the second week, and she's really got the hang of going down without being rocked - she doesn't even get up at night anymore. I really am starting to feel liberated and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Her naps in the day have started again (albeit 10-20 minutes) but I know they'll improve with time. I'm SO glad we did this, and am proud of how strong the two of us were together to get through this with her. It truly was 2 weeks of absolute misery. I was a tad worried about changing her scenery during this change of routine, but the cottage hasn't seem to made any difference. Thank goodness. Fingers crossed this is the new normal.
