Hide and Seek

Caitlin desperately wanted to go on a forest walk, so daddy took her in the woods behind the cottage as requested. They were gone quite some time, so when Adam woke up, I bundled him up and ventured in to see what they were up to. I discovered they had been working hard at making a lean-to!

The perfect fort!

While Caitlin crawled underneath the fallen tree, Adam enjoyed climbing on top :) He was surprisingly balanced on it!

Except he got a little teetery when his sister joined him and hugged him from behind :)

Then she played her favourite game. Hide and seek! And what better place than in the forest?! She counted to 10 and then ran to find daddy.

When it was her turn to hide, we encouraged Adam to count. Except numbers just came out as la-la-la's instead :)

On the way back to the cottage, daddy made a homemade spile and tapped a young sugar maple. Drip, drip, drop...

Caitlin couldn't wait for it to drop and decided to go straight to the source instead! My little vampire.

Then it was down to the lake so daddy could teach Caitlin how to skip stones. She had good form...

But kept opting for the ones that make the bigger splash :)

Oh yeah! The shrieks of laughter that followed were hilarious :)

After lunch, the Easter bunny came! Both kids found their baskets to collect eggies. She did all the gathering, and Adam was just fine with that :)

Instead, he watched on with his basket on his head. An Easter shriner!

She popped opened a few eggs as she went. Luckily, the Easter bunny delivered a lot of non-candy filled eggs which was perfect - she LOVES finding little treasures! He brought stamps, animals, stickers, rings and even wind-up toys.

When all the eggs were accounted for, she held up the baskets and felt badly Adam's was empty. That's okay sweetie, he can't eat them anyway. He said he'd share all of his with you; such a nice little brother :) Besides, his basket looked better as a hat!

Admiring the spoils...

She then plunked herself down and hoarded the sweet treats :)

Adam saw her savouring the foil wrapped indulgence and, as seen by the drool, determined they were something edible. Sorry bud! Next year :)

After a chocolate overdose, we promptly switched her snack for some nectarines. Good trade, she loves fruit.

Back to the forest to burn off some sugar!

More hide and seek. She really picked some good spots!

Adam joined us too, but in another sense. He was sleeping again :)

Awww, flowers for mom. Thank you sweetie!

We went in a little while later because someone woke up happy and HUNGRY!

We dressed the kids up in festive Easter attire so we could get some nice pictures of them before dinner. As grandpa readied the scene, and I finished feeding Adam, and Caitlin sat with grandma at the kitchen table and taught her how to sing Baby Beluga and He's Got the Whole World in His Hands. It was so sweet to hear her little voice squeak out the tunes!

Once Adam gobbled everything up (he's usually pretty quick - he eats like a champ!), we took the kids outside for a glamour Easter photo shoot. They looked so sweet in their outfits - thank you Katie for letting me borrow Caleb's old one for Adam, and to grandma for making Caitlin's!

Grandpa took exactly 100 shots to get 1 good one:

Not so easy to direct two kids; one was full of chocolate and didn't want to cooperate (this is her 'looking pretty'), and the other was mesmerized by the tulle in the basket and the eggs on the ground...

We did get some adorable solo shots though:

Once our photo shoot was done, we went inside for an Easter dinner... complete with a bunny carrot cake for dessert!

It was an early night because she decided not to nap today... sometimes she just can't shut her brain off while we're at the cottage. Too much fun to be had! One last glug of her 'wine' before story time.

Nite, nite and Hoppy Easter!!
